Don’t speed. Tickets cost WAY too much, plus you use a lot more gas when you speed as well. Slow down to save money.

Hah. Good point Adam. As you know though, you would have to make some big money per hour to make that worthwhile as speeding tickets have soared in price over the last few years. Sorry I didn’t post earlier!
I typically don’t speed, but I’ve found some significant cost savings in driving below the speed limit! I own a 2000 Dodge Grand Caravan with an EPA-rated 19 MPG city and 24 MPG highway. I do a lot of interstate driving for my job, and I’ve found that when I set the cruise control for 55 MPH, and actively shift into neutral when I’m going down hill, I’m routinely getting 28-32 MPG, depending on traffic, road conditions and weather. That’s an additional 60+ miles on a tank of gas, $360/year! You’re only robbing yourself by speeding.
That is awesome Kevin. There are some definite techniques to growing your MPG average. The ones you are using save the most. Accelerating slowly is another crucial one. Pretty impressive that you are averaging 30 MPG in your Caravan man.
Too bad there are people out there that there is no getting through to. For example I worked with someone who quite literally believed there was no difference in gas usage between regular driving and mashing down on the accelerator. I thought of a tactic that might work on people who hate paying taxes; simply refer to speeding tickets as “voluntary taxes”, after all it’s not like anyone is required to go over the speed limit.
Totally true Matt. It is most definitely a voluntary tax. Speeding stinks for a number of reasons.
