I confess I might not be the most fiscally sound when it comes to my phone plan. Don’t get me wrong – I’m on a family plan and I get a substantial discount from my employer, but, if I truly wanted the absolute lowest price I would be with these guys. Alas, I just like having newer technology and the thought of carrying around a phone that was released a few years ago just does not work for me. However, I do have standards and buying the latest and greatest newest smartphone is something that I do NOT buy into.
History shows us that Android smartphone prices drop fairly quickly after their release. The competition is stiff and the “newest model” doesn’t retain its position for long. If you make the purchase on release day you are paying for the hype more than the actual device.
If it is just imperative that you have it right away look for pre-order specials. You could find it for $50 less than the actual list price. Not your best bet but you can save a little.
If you can wait a few months you’ll save 50% or possibly more on the S4 or any new new device for that matter. Check out sites like Amazon Wireless, Wirefly, and LetsTalk for the best prices. They even sometimes have offers that come with a waiver of the activation fee (a $36 savings). It always pays to buy your phone on a third party website, not through your provider’s website or local store. The only exception to that rule is Black Friday.
Your best bet for getting the ultimate deal is to set up an email alert with my favorite website. They check all of the third party websites for the best deals on new phone hardware. Happy phone hunting!
